Author Charles Swindoll once wrote, “I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”
I’m sure that statement resonates with many of you as it encapsulates 2020 perfectly. In many ways, 2020 is a year we’d all like to get behind us – including those, like me, who contracted COVID-19.
Looking back, 2020 was actually a tremendous year for Vivify, and for the remote patient monitoring (RPM) industry as a whole. Many providers who had previously been reluctant to try remote care, including those in accountable care organizations whose compensation is tied most directly to health outcomes, suddenly found themselves as huge supporters of it once they had a taste of it.
Providers discovered they liked the convenience of remote care both for their patients and themselves. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the pandemic also accelerated changes in reimbursement for delivering RPM services.
In reality, the pandemic probably caused acceptance of RPM to leap ahead three years.
This widespread acceptance of telehealth and RPM was certainly reflected in Vivify’s business. In 2020 we experienced nearly 500% growth in revenue, as well as nearly 300% increase in employees. The fact that all this expansion occurred during a pandemic year is a tremendous testament to the quality not only of our solution but our outstanding team.
One of the many things I’m proudest of this year is how our team responded once the pandemic struck. On March 16, less than a week after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, Vivify announced the release of our new COVID-19 Screening, Self-Isolation, and Monitoring Pathways for our Vivify +Home and +Go mobile solutions. We made most of these tools available to all providers free of charge to help them attempt to gain control of the pandemic in its early stages and offered deeply discounted and rapid deployment of our new Vivify Pathways platform to further that cause.
The results of this effort were staggering, to say the least. To date we have made the following impact on the COVID-19 crisis:
- 2,000,000+ COVID patient days
- Tens of millions of qualitative and quantitative data points collected
- 80+ health systems & organizations using our COVID-19 screening and monitoring tools
- 1 out of 3 RPM COVID-positive patients enrolled in the COVID-19 Monitoring program
- Patient adherence/compliance rate of 80% to COVID-19 programs
It wasn’t just the pandemic that contributed to our success this year, however. Our parent company, Optum, has been the rocket fuel behind our turbo charged success, along with the partnerships that have created new solutions and innovations such as our forthcoming artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Among other points of pride in 2020 was having our first article published in a prestigious, peer-reviewed medical journal. Vascular Disease Management (Oct. 2020) featured a case study on our work with Vascular Care of Texas, a tremendous example of the power of RPM and telehealth, inside or outside of a pandemic.
In April, Vivify was highlighted as one of the preferred Remote Patient Monitoring vendors nationwide in KLAS Research’s “COVID-19 Technology & Services Solutions Guide.” As the leader in the RPM market, combined with explosive growth created by COVID, we have doubled down on customer-facing services to help our customers excel with new models of care.
Now, as we look ahead to 2021, there is an even greater reason for optimism. This year we were able to demonstrate the Vivify platform’s rapid scalability and ability to drive outcomes. In 2021 we will be increasing the use of intelligent pathways to drive even more personal experiences, driving even more engagement and better outcomes.
We are committed to continuing to expand the multitude of clinical capabilities with the Vivify Pathways platform. Where our competitors offer point solutions for specific conditions, the Vivify platform has proven to be adaptable to any condition. In fact, we have worked with customers to create new, very specific Pathways where none previously existed. This is an example of why Vivify continues to hold a leadership position in remote care.
Additionally, we will continue to expand the universe of health devices that can be connected to the Vivify platform to make it not only the most effective technology but also the easiest, most convenient and most affordable to use.
As we put 2020 in the rearview mirror, I’d like to thank our customers, partners and employees for taking this journey with us.
